Being a Part

Some people look at today's date and see the symbolism of 24, a number that can also be reduced to 6, often associated with home, responsibility, compassion, service, and community. That's a lil' numerology for you, if you're into that sort of thing.
Whether you embrace that symbolism or simply appreciate the invitation to reflect, today feels like the perfect day to pause and give thanks.
Just days ago, I celebrated another birthday.
Forty-four years.
Forty-four years of learning.
Forty-four years of becoming.
Forty-four years of discovering that our greatest accomplishments are rarely measured by titles, possessions, or accolades, but by the lives we touch and the people we choose to walk beside.
This birthday has been different. Not because everything is perfect. But because my perspective has changed.
As I've reflected over these past several days, my heart keeps returning to one image.
My sister.
Standing in her beautiful new home, I began to do what I always do, when I arrive.
Every time I step into that space, I don't simply see walls, windows, or furniture.
I see perseverance.
I see answered prayers.
I see years of faith refusing to surrender.
I remember the long hospital stays.
The uncertainty.
The moments when the future felt fragile.
Especially after the events of December 2023, when life once again reminded our family how precious and unpredictable each day truly is. There were days when the destination seemed impossibly far away. Yet here we are. Not because the journey was easy. But because grace continued meeting us one step at a time. Watching her reach this chapter fills my heart with a gratitude that words struggle to capture most times.
Her story reminds me that healing is rarely instantaneous. Growth is rarely linear. Hope is rarely convenient. Yet somehow...Life keeps moving. God keeps working. And tomorrow keeps arriving. Perhaps that's one of the greatest lessons I've learned in forty-four years. We were never meant to do life alone.
Every person who encourages us...
Every family member who refuses to give up...
Every mentor...
Every teacher...
Every friend...
Every neighbor...
Every community that chooses compassion over criticism...They all become part of our story. At N'Zari Heartline, we often talk about building a village. But villages aren't built with buildings. They're built with people.
People who choose to show up.
People who choose to listen.
People who choose to believe in someone before they believe in themselves.
People who understand that simply being present can change the direction of another person's life.
That is what it means to be a part. To be part of someone's healing. Part of someone's encouragement. Part of someone's second chance. Part of someone's journey.
Sometimes we believe our impact has to be extraordinary. But often, the most extraordinary thing we can do is remain faithful in the ordinary.
A phone call.
A conversation.
A meal.
A prayer.
A listening ear.
A word of encouragement.
A reminder that someone matters.
Those simple acts have the power to transform lives.
As I begin this forty-fourth year, my prayer isn't for more recognition. It isn't for more success, although, I will not turn away any that is on its way! It isn't even for an easier road. My prayer is simply this, when it comes to N'Zari Heartline and any other work that I do, from here, forward:
May I continue to be part of what brings healing.
Part of what builds hope.
Part of what restores families.
Part of what reminds young people they are deeply seen, deeply valued, and deeply loved.
If N'Zari Heartline becomes known for anything, I pray it is this:
That we helped people remember they were never meant to walk alone.
Today, my heart is full. Full of gratitude. Full of hope. Full of appreciation for how far my family has come. Full of excitement for what is still being built. And full of faith that the greatest chapters are often written AFTER the hardest ones.
So wherever you are on your journey today...Thank you for being a part of someone else's story.
Never underestimate the difference your presence can make.
Sometimes the greatest gift we offer another person is simply reminding them that they belong.
— With gratitude,
